It’s probably been a while since your last typing speed test. How fast are you these days? Find it in with an elegant little typing test.
Me? Consistently in the high 80s-low 90s wpm, with three or four errors each time. My best showing, after about ten tries: 100.85 wpm, with two errors. Pretty good! Certainly better than whatever I pulled in typing class on the Selectric back in the day.

I consistently got around 78, with 4 mistakes. My best was 95, with 4 mistakes. I think it’s a generous scale.

Last time I was temping, they were still testing people at NY temp agencies on a manual typewriter, even though computer use was the norm in the real world. This was right after I graduated from Penn, so it can’t be more than…um…a few years ago…
I was in Maryland on a boat this weekend, with no Burger King access, but I posted pictures of the hot dogs on the grill.
83.19 wpm with 1 mistake. Typing is fun. Maybe I’ll find a new job, of which typing will be a crucial component.
79.62 with no mistakes. That seems generous to me too. At my peak as a freshman in Mrs. Westfall’s class, I was about 60 wpm with 2 or 3 errors. Maybe I’ve peaked again.
Also, I was taught to double space after a period. That accounted for several errors on my first few tries. What’s with that?
The rule is different with proportional type (i.e., on a computer) vs. monospace type (i.e., on a typewriter). The standard for book and magazine text (and at this point, everything else) is a single space after the sentence. I’m pretty sure that’s how typing instructors teach it now too.
You’ll notice that on the web, even if you type two, you only get one when it’s all said and done.

79.31 (1 mistake). unimpressive, i know — but incidentally, i type with two fingers. literally. sometimes i use my pinky for deleting… i should probably be much more ashamed about that than i am.
of course, it seems the deck is stacked ever so slightly in favor of those who have committed the gettysburg address to memory. (i imagine they switch up the famous speeches now and then, eh?)
what a cool little thing! i’m certainly not getting any work done now.
